A Move Survey - how does that work?

Videotaxatie Rolf_1

The appraisal and consultation visit by our surveyour is the first step in the moving process. The purpose of this pre-move survey visit is to provide information about the moving process, discuss your wishes, and make an assessment of your household goods and personal effects to be shippped, including those that require extra care. How does this work?

Accurate Resources Allocation and Quotation

It is important to compile a complete list of moving items, understand your moving situation well, and determine which moving services you wish to use. This way we could obtain an estimated weight/volume of your shipment and to determine the type of packing material required for your move.

If you plan to acquire new items to be included for shipping, please remember to let our surveyor know. Should you have any items that are of particular concern to you, please highlight these to our surveyor at the time of survey. This will better enable us to handle these items with extra care during packing and shipping.

Need More Insight? Free, No-Obligation Additional Appointment

If, during your conversation with our Relocation Consultants, it becomes clear that we need better insight into your specific moving situation—for example, regarding items that need special care or to discuss your further wishes—we will gladly schedule an appraisal and consultation visit with you.

During this appointment, one of our surveyors will go over everything with you where there are still questions. This better insight ensures that both you and we are well-prepared on moving day, making the move go smoothly. After all, you have enough on your mind!

A Personal or 'Virtual' Appraisal and Consultation Visit? Both Are Possible with Us.

Why Choose an Appraisal via Video Call?

Advantages of an appraisal and consultation visit via video call:

  • Convenience
  • Practicality: Ideal if you have no time during the day or live abroad and are moving internationally.
  • Time-saving: An efficient way to show us your moving inventory via video appraisal.
  • Eco-friendly: You can ask our expert 'Relocation Consultants' questions continuously in English or Dutch, and send photos or videos up to 4GB via the app afterward.

De Haan Relocation, Netherlands does its digital Pre Move Surveys in cooperation with the Yembo software system. Yembo works with Android and Apple devices. The digital recording data is securely handled by us and will not be shared with third parties in accordance with our data privacy and protection policy. The recordings are automatically deleted after one year.

The Appraisal Process with a surveyor

After the phone conversation with one of our Relocation Consultants, you will receive an email confirmation of the day and time of your appointment with our surveyor. If you plan to buy new items, please inform us, as well as items that require special care or are of particular value to you.

Step-by-Step & Tips for a Video Appraisal

  • Our moving advisor will first call you to explain how the online appraisal works. You will then receive an SMS or email with the link. The link acts as a key to the secure video connection between our computer and your device. When you click the link, Yembo will launch immediately. You need to grant access to your phone or tablet’s microphone and camera by clicking the corresponding icons.

  • Ensure good Wi-Fi or 4G connection throughout the house and a charged mobile phone or tablet. Our staff will explain what to do if the connection drops.

  • During the video call, just like in a regular appointment, we want to see all the items you wish to move and all rooms. Walk through the house with your mobile phone or tablet.

  • Be prepared to open all cupboards, drawers (especially in the kitchen), and storage spaces. Turn on the lights and keep a flashlight handy for poorly lit areas.

  • Keep a measuring tape handy for any requested dimensions. This can be useful if you want to have a crate made for fragile items.

During the tour of your home, our moving advisor will ask questions to get the best possible understanding of your situation, always respecting your privacy. You can also ask them questions and make your specific wishes known. We are happy to assist you with our knowledge and expertise!

If you have any questions before your scheduled appointment, you can call or email us.

How Long Does a Video Appraisal for My Move Take?

Video appraisals generally take less time than traditional in-home appraisals. The average duration of the video appraisal is related to the size of your inventory and home:

  • Studio or 1 bedroom: 10-15 minutes
  • 2 bedrooms: 15-20 minutes
  • 3 bedrooms: 25-30 minutes
  • 4(+) bedrooms: 35-45+ minutes

After the appraisal, our moving advisor will create an inventory list and you will quickly receive a clear, non-binding quotation.
