Everyone loves the holidays, but what holidays are celebrated in the Netherlands and which one of the national Dutch Holidays will give you a ‘free’ day off? Here’s the list of all Dutch Holidays in 2024. Useful also if you are moving to the Netherlands.
There are some Dutch national holidays that you’ll love. Kingsday for an example: a day full of Beer, people that are dressed in orange and a festive garage sale. Some Dutch public holidays aren’t a free day off. You are obliged to work through some important days like Remembrance Day (May 4th). Here are all the Dutch bank holidays you want to mark in your phone.

As you can see there are a lot of typical Dutch holidays to mark in your calendar. Especially Sinterklaas and Kingsday are days worth celebrating. Dive in the Dutch culture with the Dutch Christmas holidays to make ‘suprises’ and bake ‘pepernoten’ as a lovely treat. Eat traditional oliebollen at New Year’s Eve and dress in an orange outfit during the celebration of the King Willem Alexander.
Unfortunately, there aren’t a lot of national days off for the whole country. There are a lot of national Dutch holidays where you must work or take a day off. And there is sadly nothing you can do about it. Only schools or government institutions have most Dutch holidays off.
